Realm
once upon a time, the internet was created to bring people together and make us smarter.
At first, it clearly did this. Over time, though, we’ve begun to question whether that trajectory may have changed. Political polarization? Increased anxiety? The feeling we’re being manipulated and stalked with spyware?
It doesn’t have to be this way. We want a place where we can share and see quality information and ideas, with both agency and privacy.
Let's build a shared reality at Realm.
The internet is evolving faster than the humans that created it. It is a noisy space, where quantity often overwhelms quality. A few companies control the majority of our gateways to information, where we're manipulated for our attention. There are serious ramifications to our individual and social health: anxiety and suicides are on the rise, while democratic societies are increasingly polarized and losing a common view of reality.
What if we could fix some of that?
That's what we're trying to do at Realm.
Starting with insights into what our REAL friends, admired colleagues, and loved ones are reading and thinking about, we want to build simple user experiences that help us turn information into knowledge we can build on, together.
The Realm product, to start, will let you:
- Connect with those you care about by mutually sharing what you're reading and pondering
- Learn more quickly with and from others through notes, tagging, and summaries
- Enjoy reading. Will you not be entertained? ;-)
In the near future, we will enable commenting on URLs in shared queues. We have a vision for a ton more features that will make drawing insights from information, organizing knowledge, and sharing it easier. Plus: we'll quickly build more features based on your feedback!
Our goal is for our real product to be the norms we all carry around the internet. By seeing what other people are reading, by sharing discussions about ideas, and by creating standards for what we accept as our reality online, we will make this happen.
Because: one way or another, we're all this together.
